NEW READING SERVICES

Philmscribe will round up The Usual Suspects

Those keen of eye and familiar with my website will spot my reading services have undergone a shake up, a revamp, a rewrite, if you will.

What I have tried to do is give an even wider range of support, provide even better value while still retaining that Philmscribe focus on helping you get your work where it needs to be: tight, entertaining and error-free.

As ever, you can rest assured that with every service (aside from the First Five and First Ten, of course!) your script will be read in full and will have my complete and undivided attention. I want to help you succeed.

The film-savvy will note these new-look resources have a theme; the majority are based on standard camera shot coverage in movie-making. But you don't need to be a cinematographer to understand the differences. They should all make sense.

That said, if you do feel you need further information on any service, don't hesitate to get in touch. Likewise, if you're unsure what would best suit your script, come have a chat. I can always give your draft a quick look to ascertain what service would best benefit.

STANDARD FEEDBACK

 the ONE SHOT

Formerly the One Sheet, this is my one page once-over. A quick and concise look at your TV or feature script that revolves around my unique Scorecard system covering ten essential story and script elements with brief notes on each.

Click on the above pdf link to see what the ONE SHOT and the Scorecard system look like. This service is ideal for writers who would like a quick review of their work without the cost that more in-depth analysis brings.

£UKP 50.00

(approx. $USD 65.00**)

(for TV & feature scripts up to 120 pages only)

* Please note: these prices do not include any potential add-on fees charged by PayPal. But don't worry, I will calculate these for you, if applicable.

** All costs in US dollars are approximate as will depend on the exchange rate at the time of booking.

the SNAP SHOT

Formerly the Snap Read, this is my most popular feedback service. It's for those writers who require only some brief feedback on how their screenplay fares.

It's ideal both for writers seeking an affordable evaluation on an early draft and those preparing to submit a well-revised script to an agent, production company or script competition and want a final check. Purely a general overview of the work, a typical SNAP SHOT report covers premise, character, structure, dialogue, action, formatting and grammar in no fewer than 5 pages. It also includes the Scorecard system.

£UKP 80.00

(approx. $USD 100.00**)

(for TV & feature scripts up to 120 pages only)

* Please note: these prices do not include any potential add-on fees charged by PayPal. But don't worry, I will calculate these for you, if applicable.

** All costs in US dollars are approximate as will depend on the exchange rate at the time of booking.

the MID SHOT

Named after a medium-focus camera shot (also known as The Cowboy or The American), this service is a brand new addition to the range. Essentially, it's a more detailed Snap Shot for writers who want a little more focus and detail. To this end, this report will be no fewer than 10 pages in length. It also features the Scorecard system.

£UKP 100.00

(approx. $USD 125.00**)

(for TV & feature scripts up to 120 pages only)

* Please note: these prices do not include any potential add-on fees charged by PayPal. But don't worry, I will calculate these for you, if applicable.

** All costs in US dollars are approximate as will depend on the exchange rate at the time of booking.

the FULL SHOT

Formerly the Analysis, this is a uniquely thorough feedback service. Rather than merely providing Hollywood-style coverage – a report designed more for the executive than the writer – I don't pad out the report with a storyline breakdown but get right to the salient points, the issues, focusing on the perceived areas of concern. It's a top-to-bottom full focus on all the key points in your story.

Each report breaks down formatting, dialogue and description followed by an Areas of Concern section where I go into detail about issues specific to your draft. These may be character development complications, story structure problems, poor pacing, troubles with tone and theme, clarity concerns - there are myriad potential pitfalls - but you can rest assured that whatever is found, you'll receive a comprehensive examination. On average, this full focus runs to between 25-35 pages of notes. It also features the Scorecard system.

£UKP 200.00

(approx. $USD 250.00**)

(for TV & feature scripts up to 120 pages only)

* Please note: these prices do not include any potential add-on fees charged by PayPal. But don't worry, I will calculate these for you, if applicable.

** All costs in US dollars are approximate as will depend on the exchange rate at the time of booking.

ADDITIONAL FEEDBACK

the FIRST FIVE

This service focuses on your script's most important pages: the first five.  No reader is duty-bound to love your story, so it's up to you to engage them and engage them early. And overworked execs don't have time to persevere with your story to see if it picks up later on; they need to know the quality of the script and its writer straightaway.

Using my ST★RCARD system, I rate 10 key aspects pertinent to the opening of your story and script and provide brief notes on each to help you ensure your first five pages are working hard for your story. Click on the above link to see a sample of this service. If you feel you'd benefit from this focused feedback, then contact me with your logline and let's make a start on your start.

£UKP 25.00

(approx. $USD 32.00**)

* Please note: these prices do not include any potential add-on fees charged by PayPal. But don't worry, I will calculate these for you, if applicable.

the FIRST TEN

It should come as no surprise that this addition to the range is simply an extension of the above service for those writers who feel they need feedback on more than just the first five pages of their script. It looks exactly like the above FIRST FIVE sample, employing my ST★RCARD system, rating the same 10 essential aspects, however I'll be basing my findings on the opening ten pages of your script. If this is a better fit for you, then contact me with your logline and let's tackle your ten.

£UKP 35.00

(approx. $USD 45.00**)

* Please note: these prices do not include any potential add-on fees charged by PayPal. But don't worry, I will calculate these for you, if applicable.

** All costs in US dollars are approximate as will depend on the exchange rate at the time of booking.

the BEAT SWEEP

This service resembles a beat sheet, but a beat sheet with a difference. After a full read of your script, I will break down the story into its key scenes and add quick, to-the-point notes on each recorded plot point and story moment.

It's a scene list breakdown that will provide a clear overview of your story beat by beat, helping you get a clearer understanding as to what's working and what's not. For a first-page sample of this unique service, click on the pdf.

£UKP 180.00

(approx. $USD 225.00**)

(for TV & feature scripts up to 120 pages only)

* Please note: these prices do not include any potential add-on fees charged by PayPal. But don't worry, I will calculate these for you, if applicable.

the SUPER

Formerly the Annotation Service or A Game, this service is named after the SUPER, the superimposition of text over scene action. Consequently, it consists of notes, comments, highlights and other text annotations on the script pages themselves.

It's ideal for those who like a more visual, direct and on-the-page approach. A throwback to school homework with teacher marks!

This service involves a thorough annotation of your script in PDF format, focusing primarily on cosmetic concerns - layout and language - so if you're a writer who feels you need help with the formatting side of screenwriting or struggle with spelling and grammar, then this is likely to be a beneficial choice.

This full annotation guarantees the client that his or her work has been read in its entirety and hasn't been given the "five–and–dime" treatment. This is the dismal practice whereby many Hollywood script readers & consultants – bombarded with so many screenplays – read only the first five and last ten pages before making a judgement. You can be sure with my Sticky Note annotations that this does not happen.

Obviously, not all scripts are built the same, so rather than give a fixed rate for this service, I would need to take a quick look at the draft in question to provide you with an accurate quote. â€‹

the SUPER

This is an extended version of The Super. It expands the focus of the annotations to cover story-related elements in addition to language and layout concerns. This way you have my thoughts directly on the page next to the location of the issue. Perfect for those who prefer to get bitesize comments on the script itself rather than read more extensive notes via a report. And just like The Super, I would need to take a quick look at the script to provide you with an accurate quote.

starting from £UKP 375.00*

(approx. $USD 470.00**)

(for TV & feature scripts up to 120 pages only)

the DEEP FOCUS

Formerly the A&A , this is a service bundle, a package deal that includes both the FULL SHOT and the SUPER.  At a reduced rate!

Just as the deep focus camera shot keeps all elements in sharp focus, so too this service ensures every script and story element is observed and analysed. It's the deepest of dives. The ultimate stress test of your script.

You'll get a full, detail-rich annotation of your screenplay together with a uniquely thorough feedback report – the best of both worlds - where everything is scrutinised: language, layout, structure, plotting, characterisation, dialogue, scene description, tone, theme, writer's voice - everything you could possibly want covered and all in forensic detail.

And because it includes the SUPER, I would need to take a quick look at the draft in order to provide you with an accurate quote.

starting from £UKP 350.00*

(approx. $USD 440.00**)

(for TV & feature scripts up to 120 pages only)

* Please note: these prices do not include any potential add-on fees charged by PayPal. But don't worry, I will calculate these for you, if applicable.

Script over 120 pages?

Be aware this may severely hamper your chances of success. If an agent or production exec finds FADE OUT on page 121 or above, it's unlikely to be seen as a positive. Most feature scripts these days fall between the 90-110 page count. That said, if you still wish for me to read your 120+ page script, then I will do. However, I will add an additional charge of £UKP 2.50  ($USD 3.50per additional page.

Script under 40 pages?

If you have a TV script such a sitcom or some other half-hour slot show or you have a short feature under 40 pages, then I will do a reduced rate on all the above services except the First Five.

Contact me for details.
